The SU Startup and Entrepreneurship Council, in collaboration with the IIC Saurashtra

University and Department of Social Work, Saurashtra University hosted a seminar on

"Standardization in Quality: Elevating Entrepreneurs in the Marketplace” on 20th October,

2023 at Seminar Hall, Department of Social Work, Saurashtra University, Rajkot. At the

beginning of the session, Mr. R.M. Dave delivered a welcome speech.

During the event, the guest speaker Mr. Jasmin Dhakan provided a brief overview of

standardization. What Is standardization? and its answer is the process of making something

confirm to a standard. Standardization is the process of developing, promoting and possibly

mandating standard-based and compatible technologies and processes within given

industry. Stakeholder analysis is a systematic process used to identify, prioritize, and

understand the individuals, groups, or entities that can influence or are influenced by an

organization, project, or decision. This analysis helps organizations better understand their

stakeholders' interests, needs, and concerns, which in turn can inform strategic decision-

making. SOPs are documented, step-by-step guidelines that define how specific tasks or

processes should be carried out within an organization. They are designed to ensure

consistency, efficiency, and quality in the execution of routine operations. SOPs are

commonly used in industries like healthcare, manufacturing, and customer service.

The second question happens why standardization? Standardization in an organization aims

to eliminate coordination issues and streamline decision making. It ensures that processes

and products adhere to establishes norms and guidelines. Standardization benefits include

enhanced efficiency, improved product quality, safety assurance, and compatibility among

components or systems. It simplifies decision making by providing a common framework.

Standardization contributes to a more organized and efficient work environment. What is

the importance of standardization? Standardization in business is crucial for product quality

and safety. It plays a significant role in maintaining consistence product quality.

Standardization promotes compatibility among products. It establishes uniform practices

within an industry. Standardization contributes to product safety, quality, and industry wide

consistency.

Afterward sir explain standardization involves various stakeholders who play different roles

in the development and implementation of standards and here's a brief explanation of each:

  • ISO (International Organization for Standardization):

ISO is the international body that develops and publishes standards for various industries

and sectors. These standards help ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products and

services on a global scale.

  • IAF (International Accreditation Forum):

IAF is an international association of accreditation bodies and other organizations involved

in conformity assessment activities. It provides a framework for the mutual recognition of

accredited management systems and product certifications.

  • ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation):

ILAC is an international organization that promotes the global acceptance of accredited

laboratory and inspection body results. It works closely with IAF to ensure conformity

assessment activities are carried out consistently and reliably.

  • EA (European co-operation for Accreditation):

EA is a European network of accreditation bodies involved in accreditation activities,

including calibration, testing, inspection, and certification.

  • IAAC (Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation):

IAAC is a regional organization in the Americas that facilitates the cooperation and mutual

recognition of accreditation bodies for conformity assessment.

  • APAC (Asia-Pacific Accreditation Cooperation):

APAC is a regional cooperation organization for accreditation bodies in the Asia-Pacific

region. It promotes the equivalence and acceptance of accredited certificates and reports.

  • AFRAC (African Accreditation Cooperation):

AFRAC is a cooperation organization for accreditation bodies in Africa. It promotes the

quality and competence of conformity assessment bodies in the region.

  • ARAC (Arab Accreditation Cooperation):

ARAC is a cooperation organization for accreditation bodies in the Arab region. It works to

enhance the confidence of consumers and facilitate trade through accreditation.

  • UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service):

UKAS is the national accreditation body for the United Kingdom. It assesses and accredits

organizations, including testing laboratories, calibration services, and certification bodies.

  • ANIAB (National Accreditation and Inspection Board, Nigeria):

ANIAB is the national accreditation and inspection body for Nigeria, responsible for

accrediting laboratories and inspection bodies.

  • EIAC (Emirates International Accreditation Centre):

EIAC is the national accreditation body of the United Arab Emirates, responsible for

accrediting conformity assessment bodies in the UAE.

  • Ghana National Accreditation Service (GNAS):

GNAS is the national accreditation body of Ghana, responsible for accrediting laboratories,

certification bodies, and inspection bodies to ensure they meet international standards and

guidelines.

Then sir introduce types of certifications

• Product certification- ISO/IEC17065 and ISO/IEC17020,

• Process certification- ISO/IEC17021,

• Tasting and calibration certification- ISO/IEC17025,

• Personnel certification- ISO/IEC17025,

Student understand examples of certification.

• System certification: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001

• Product certification: SASO, SON CAP

• Tasting and calibration certification: Mechanical testing, Chemical testing, Electrical

testing, Measuring equipment, Calibration

• Personnel certification: Auditor, Lifeguard, Welding Operator Student understand

examples of certification.

After that sir talked about Documentation in Standardization:
